For the Los Angeles community, the sport of soccer is important entertainment. In fact, it is one of the most popular sports in the world. Camino Nuevo Miramar soccer players, too, are filled with competitiveness, passion, and spirit.

Junior Matthew Guzman has shown his athleticism through the sport of soccer. His journey with soccer has been long as he grew into his talent.

“Probably when I was around the age of 7 or 8, I would watch my dad play soccer,” Matthew said. “Watching him play it through the various games he had inspired me to do the same.”

Matthew has other influences in soccer, too. “Watching players become successful in soccer really influenced me to play. Some players that interested me were Messi, Ronaldo, or David Beckham.”

Matthew says that soccer has impacted him greatly and has value in his life.

“Most of my life has been dedicated to soccer training and other related activities to this sport which has impacted me in many ways mentally and physically,” Matthew said. “It means so much that  without soccer I wouldn’t be who I am because of the change this sport has done to my life like my mentality.”

Junior Christian Garcia, a longtime teammate and friend of Matthew’s, said he appreciates Matthew’s talent.

“Matthew has been very skilled and energetic in soccer,” Christian said. “He’s been a good friend of mine and he definitely stands out in his ability to play. You can always see him running around the whole field looking for the ball. He is creative in the spaces and plays he makes with his teammates.”
